Day Two- Favorite Companion

Welcome back for day two of the "Doctor Who 30 Day Challenge".  I know, I know...it's a day late.  BUT the fact that I'm actually posting it is a victory to me, so let's just roll with it, shall we?

In all of the Who-verse my favorite companion hands down has GOT to be Ms Donna Noble, Portrayed by the awesome Catherine Tate.

I think that the reason that I love Donna so much is that she is the perfect compliment to Doctor 10's complex character, she just levels him out so well.  Their on screen chemistry is awesome (I think that a large part of that is because they are friends in real life) and the way they play off of each other is brilliant.  

Donna is a smart ass and funny as hell, but at the same time is vulnerable and sensitive.  She just seems to know exactly what the doctor "needs" at any given time.  She knows when she needs to run her mouth and give him a virtual "boot to the butt", but she also knows when to just keep her mouth shut and be there for him to lean on.

For example, in the episode "The Doctor's Daughter", when he is denying Jenny as "just a product of war and violence", she doesn't get angry, doesn't yell or run her mouth but simply makes him listen to Jenny's two hearts beating, bringing home the reality that yes, she is a part of him.  I thought that scene was absolutely touching and heart warming.  And after Jenny dies, and they are on the TARDIS, she is there for him in a way that only a true friend is there for a friend.

And, that brings about another reason why I like her so much, she is JUST his friend.  She tells him in no uncertain terms that she is NOT interested in anything more than a friendship, which after the loss of Rose, and the mess with Martha's confused feelings for him, was just what he needed.  The Doctor should never be alone...but that does not necessarily mean that he constantly needs a "lover" floating around in space with him.

Donna's story is also one of the more tragic ones.  From the time she stepped on the TARDIS, till the day that she had to leave, she grew so much as a person, and for every memory of that to have to be taken away (albeit to save her life) was one of the saddest moments of the show for me.  The scene between Donna and 10, where she begged him not to send her back to her old life completely broke my heart.

So, those are just a few of the MANY reasons why Donna Noble...The Doctor Donna is my favorite companion to enter the TARDIS.  As hard as they try, I don't think they'll ever find another like her.

Doctor Who- 30 Day Challenge *Day One*

Well...seeing as I did so SMASHINGLY with the 30 Day Video Game Challenge (you know, did one day and then lost my head and never updated...blaaahhh) I figured, what the heck...I'll do another challenge and maybe this one will be a success.  Ha!

My good friend Charla did a "Doctor Who" challenge on her blog, Charlatan Psychic back in March, right around the time that I first started watching the show and I have been wanting to give it a shot, but wanted to wait until I got completely caught up before I tried it.  Well, I just finished "Nightmare In Silver" yesterday!!!

So, with no further delay I give you the "Doctor Who" 30 day challenge! 

Day One- Favorite Doctor

I will begin this post by saying that when I began watching "Doctor Who" I started with the ninth regeneration and have not yet had the time to watch any of the "classic" episodes, though I really would like to.  I know a little bit about each regeneration and some of the past companions from before nine, but not a lot.

This question was tough for me, as there are different qualities about each doctor that I like over the others.  Even Matt Smith, (who I really did not think I was going to like) grew on me quickly, and I now dread the day that he regenerates.  I fell head over heels for David Tennant, the way he conveyed his emotions was superb and his goofy side always left me laughing.  However, for me, my doctor will always be Doctor Nine portrayed by Chris Eccleston.

Nine could be completely goofy, and light hearted, but always left you with this feeling that you REALLY did not want to make him angry.  And, though I liked Rose, he would not put up with some of the outright stupid stuff that she would do.  He did not hesitate to tell her when she was being an idiot (like when she created the paradox in the "Father's Day" episode), and even though he forgave her, I felt that his eyes conveyed to her in no uncertain terms that if she ever did something like that again, he would not be so forgiving and she would be given a one way ticket home.  

Nine had an awesome, light hearted side.

But when he was angry, you knew it.

I suppose that the saying "you always remember your first" rings true here, while I love the Doctors that came after him, there will always be this special place in my fangirl heart for Doctor Nine.  He is my Doctor, and I totally miss him.  After all, he was...

30 Days of Games Challenge: Day One- First Video Game

First off I would like to say, I wrote this blog waaaay back on Friday and thought that I had posted it.  Apparently I just hit “save” instead of “publish”…go me.  As for the rest of the posts that should have been posted for my 30 day challenge?  Well, I guess I am failsauce at 30 day challenges.  I promise to try to do better!!  Now, without further delay, Day 1 of the 30 Days of Games Challenge: My First Video Game!

Day one of my challenge was supposed to be the first game I ever played.  I decided that I would instead not only talk about the first game I ever played, but also the first game I ever completed.  

Nearly twenty five years ago when I was just the ripe age of five years old, I went to my Aunt's house for a little visit with my mom.  When we got there she was bubbling with excitement over her new “toy” that she just had to show us. 

She brought us over to her tv, and in my little five year old hands she placed a plastic gun with a long cord which was connected to a grey box on the floor.  She gently helped me point the gun at the tv, “Shoot the ducks!”

I wasn’t exactly sure what she was talking about but was curious so I took aim and began shooting away at the first bird that popped it’s head out from behind the bush.  I missed it, of course and actually tried to shoot the cheeky pup that was on the screen laughing at me.  That game, of course, was “Duck Hunt” on the NES.

After that day, video games were mostly just a special treat.  Something I’d get to play on the rare occasion that I was at my Aunt’s house or visiting a friend who was lucky enough to have a gaming system of their own.  That was until I was around twelve or thirteen years old, that is when my dad bought me an SNES for Christmas, along with a copy of “Aladdin”.

I instantly fell in love with that game and literally spent months of my life figuring out the easiest way to get through the different levels.  I was a girl on a mission, I was going to beat that game. 

It took me nearly five months of trial, error, and frustration till I finally did it.  That little “street rat” bounced off the top of Jafar’s snakey head and I got the little “death scene” and I was elated.  I immediately called all of my friends, bragged to my brother, and I’m pretty sure I did a happy dance.  And to be honest, to this day when I beat a new game…I still do that same dance.  Guess some things never change.
